Guerrilla Vending Machine

As part of the execution for the project the use of Guerrilla vending machines would be place in art exhibitions, around busy public areas such as mall, schools and office buildings where passerby would be able to interact. Each vending machine would have a supply of white packages chocolate and candy bars. In each of these specially made packages, would contain a small note and a brochure which talks about the entire campaign on why design matters. Attach on the note would be the URL which would lead people to learn more about the campaign through the web site and at the same time the note inside could be use as a bookmark.

As part of my execution for the campaign, I wanted to create an experience for mall passerby. The idea was to get them to experience what it feels like to shop in an environment where all design is stripped away. Products ranging from boxes of toothpaste to everyday consumer goods such as laundry detergent, shampoo, soda and more. Passerby would also get the opportunity to learn more about the campaign and if they want to get involve they would sign their name on the empty wall space provided on the wall. Brochures and flyer's would also be provided and given away.

This is another concept for the mall booth exhibit, which is designed with a maze type of layout.

This is an outdoor execution for my final project on "design value". This would be a 3 fold type of billboard which in the first slide would show an existing advertisement then slides to the next slide with the same advertisement but with the brand washed out in white. The the final slide would show the URL of the site where people could learn more about the campaign on "Why Design Matters".

In doing this execution it was interesting to explore different executions on conveying the message of why design matters in our lives and emphasizing the value of design. There would be a series of outdoor executions, each emphasize different categories of products from household items, electronics, consumer goods and so on.

For these set of package design I use an embossed method instead of ink printing. The design for the packaging follows well with the brand identity being that art materials should use lesser resources and chemicals that would do more harm to the environment.

I know it's been a while since I last posted any of my design works but just recently I was able to finish a logo design for a fictional organization that is all about preserving the environment and tree planting. In coming up with the design for this logo, there were 2 things I wanted to portray; (1) thinking and (2) the environment. I did numerous rough sketches and after a couple of hours just fiddling with one doodle after another I came up with a way to merge both ideas together into one design. In my first rough sketches I did many variations of thought bubbles, since they were perfect symbols that would identity its meaning of generating ideas or either thinking. So I try placing a thought bubble with a drawing of a tree inside of it but in the end I decided to design the trees as the hidden thought bubbles inside the illustration of the logo. With the curve hill would give balance to the overall look of the logo. Then by arranging the trees in sequence and balancing the smaller trees together and away from the bigger tree would then form a symbol of a thought bubble.

In terms of art direction I wanted the colors to be cool and relaxing, which I use a pastel shade of green to set the mood to the entire design. Then for the word mark I added dark brown to create direct contrast from the main color.

I was browsing the other day on deviantart and I came across this illustration done by Lysol Jones, one of the popular artists on the site and he had this cool concept for a fighting game. He uses the mascots of popular fast food resto's which is kinda neat coz I was exposed with these brands growing up.

The New Conquer Logo

Here is the new Conquer logo use for our branding class. We did more research asking people around the first thing that pops in their head when they first viewed the logo and most responses are: strong, organic, powerful, healthy and active. Then we showed them our first design, then we ended up getting responses such as: corporate, modern looking, active and sleek. So from gathering enough data and feedback from our interviews we decided to stick with the new design.

In choosing the logo name we wanted to have something closely related to our USP which is "don't crash. conquer". We chose the name conquer as our identity, reminding our target audience (female college students, ages:19-23) that no matter what happens in school whether your working hard on your projects or just stress out from everything, you have the power to overcome obstacles. To give them self-confidence in making right decisions for their health and to boost up their own self-esteem. So in designing the logo I was thinking of something that would symbolize victory over obstacles that students face like stress, insomnia and etc. For the 3 small leaves sticking out at the end of the logo would illustrate a sword raised up as an symbol of victory over these obstacles and being that its a tea product, would fit perfectly in place.

The package design was prepared by SuHyang, while I took charge of the application process for the brand. Knowing that our target is female college students, we did more studies and research about them and came up with ideas on how promote the brand. (1) students spend long hours studying or finishing projects in schools, time is very essential to them especially in completing certain deadlines in school; (2) knowing the long hours of work most students commute late at night, which proves to be big issue especially for female college students. By studying these facts I came up with this idea for a "survival kit" that we could give to students.

The items include a flashlight, alarm clock, cap, umbrella and a tea tumbler. The flashlight would be ideal for those students who would be commuting home late at night, so by having a flashlight around would help them pass through dark area safely. The alarm clock would be ideal to keep track of time and time management in completing the large amount of work. The umbrella and cap would be for those rainy days especially in Vancouver, BC. The tumbler would be ideal for students to bring with them to school and even to class to enjoy their favorite blend of Conquer Tea. This project has been a fun project not only for me but for our entire group as well.

These are the sample mock-ups I've done for the Virtuoso project. I'm pretty happy with the outcome this work since I've never really did any grunge design before and considering that I was able to finish these samples around 4:30am. Working overtime with Louie in completing the brochure design and posters for our class in project management. Indeed it was worth the extra time spent working in school and not mention a good experience when it comes to working on your projects.

The concept behind these work is having the grunge feeling with the sense of mystery and simplicity. After talking to our client about what he wants for the design piece we were able to gather out reference to show him about the art direction we're taking. Of course being able to work on a documentary film that's all about the Theremin instrument, we wanted to emphasize on the hand gestures, so we took series of shots of different gestures and apply that element throughout the whole design. As a special request from our client is that he wants to also portray images of circuits found inside the Theremin, so we incorporated that idea into our concept as well. So hope everything goes well before our big presentation. I'm totally burn out from the overtime work but I'm looking forward on the progress of this project.

Conquer Logo Design

Our group decided on pursuing a tea product that could be brewed either hot or cold. Our target audience would be college students, specially students who work overtime and spend long hours in schools. When we came up with this for our final design our group discuss the different possibilities on how this logo would project our product image. We wanted to emphasize the mood of motion and active lifestyle. Being that we wanted something that would attract the young demographic being hip and cool, we also wanted to associate the thought of being healthy. The design of the lines creates motion that continuously blends well together with the font. We are still continuing our progress with this logo and its application.

Navigation Icons for SketchKit

This is the navigation icons for SketchKit interface design. Since the design of the interface are all soft edges, I wanted to design each icon in the same manner as well. In the interface you get to have 5 navigation control: (1) pencil, (2) eraser, (3) paint bucket, (4) trash/recycle bin, and (5) paint brush. Something that's easily recognizable and appeals to the target audience. I really enjoyed working on this project and looking forward on its progress.

The product I chose for this class is a flash website that teaches kids age to 6-13 years old on how to draw. The product includes a drawing stage, a video tutorial and a color wheel. The purpose for this product is to teach kids on how to draw by using the drawing tablet and with the help of the video tutorial kids are able to follow and draw at the same time. With the use of the color wheel they are able to play and experiment with the different color combinations. They would also learn how on mix color and create their own combinations as well. Since my target audience is kids ages 6-13, I made use of the large buttons for easy navigation and interaction.

During the gathering of data, research and interview an interesting fact came into topic. I interviewed numerous kids and other people on their feedback about the entire site and design of the interface and interestingly enough I've found out that the majority of right handed people find the first design hard and uncomfortable to use. This is because I'm a left handed designer and of course in designing the interface I would design something that would be comfortable for me to use. So through the data and research I've gathered I came up with another interface design and this time for right handed kids. So in the beginning of the website kids are able to choose whether they are right or left handed in drawing.

In terms for future work, I was planning of creating like a profile page for each user, where they could see their posted works online in their account and each time they get voted for being the "artist of the month" they get a special trophy and by the end of the quarter they would win a special prize. Ideally I would want to give away drawing tablets as the grand prize because I want to promote kids to learn more on how to draw through the means of digital media.

My inspiration towards this projects comes from my background as being a private art teacher before. I used to teach kids ages 6-10 years old on how to draw life drawing and sketches, so I wanted to create something that would continue that passion.

The Bubble Tea Logo

Due to some constrains in the project brief we could not use Granville Island Tea Company as our sample branding for infographics, so me and SuhYang decided on doing bubble tea instead. Since we already started the process of designing an elephant and a teapot combine in one to represent tea, we change the color and added little bubbles to the logo. I've change the design of the stout as well to give it more of a well rounded curve to show that the elephant is producing bubbles. The colors that I've picked for this logo has change for the fact that our target market are mostly students, which comprises of a younger demographic.

The logotype chosen for this piece was to pick a font that would correlate with the roundness of the images especially the bubbles elements. So that throughout the entire logo there would be continuity with all the elements. This is just the first draft of designs I came up with today.

Graville Island Tea Company Concept Logo

This is an ongoing project for our infographic motion piece. Our theme for the project is "The Creative Process of Corporate Identity", and it would be a step-by-step process of the entire development on designing a logo. I did a couple of rough sketches during the first stage then slowly the idea kept on evolving until achieving the final result. At the moment these are just some of sample work I came up with in designing the logo for Granville Island Tea Company and decided to go for something simple and easy to recognize.

On topmost shows the final result (so far...) and at the bottom part shows the transition of the concept from the first initial designs moving up to the final draft.

The Bag Organizer

This is another branding piece I've been working on lately. The process that I've gone through in coming up with this design was more on how to create an icon that would symbolize an organizer inside another bag. Just to fill you guys in about the product, it was design as a small bag with multiple pockets that would help organize the things that you put inside your bag. This product is targeted to women on the go, especially knowing how women are switching stuff from one bag to another, with the bag organizer doing that task would only take seconds and it's hassle free.

So I did a couple of sketches and variations on how to produce this logo and I wanted to emphasize on the brand name, which at first was "bag-o", short for bag organizer so the design symbolizes two bags and I use a circle to surround it. So after a couple rounds of revisions I came up with this design, I wanted to emphasize on the simplicity of the design and that it would be easily recognizable. My first design draft was done all in black/white and then I tried using gray scale then moving on to colors. In choosing the colors I decided to go with the colors from the Philippine flag, where this product was made.

Corporate Identity

This logo was design for a fictitious tree planting organization. This was presented during our class in contemporary design where we as designers were ask to create a solution on how we could do our part in helping our environment. Our team decided to take global warming as our topic so we started brainstorming on ideas.

We did our research and found out the through means of tree planting would help lessen the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere so in turn we decided to create an organization that's all about tree planting. Within our corporate identity we design (1) tree planting kit (2) brochures (3) posters (4) promotional giveaways (5) t-shirts, as a part of our package.

This is corporate identity side project that I've been working on for the past 2 weeks for a consumer goods manufacturer in the Philippines. I did many variations of the logo using different layouts, shapes and color combinations. The original logo for this company emphasizes more on its typeface, so I wanted to recreate its identity by giving it a unique and strong icon that would give immediate recognition of the logo. The purpose for the redesigning this logo is that it would be easier to recognize and would easily stand alone even without its typeface.

Getting Started

I haven't blog in the longest time but I guess it's never too late to try again. This is my third week into the 3rd semester of my program in digital designing and I'm pretty psyche about this term because we'll be having branding and typography as part of our curriculum.

Just a head's up on my progress throughout this term, for our project in motion design for term 3 we would be designing an motion infographic. For this project me and my partner Suhyang have decided on the title "creative process of corporate identity" as our topic for our infographic piece. We're still on the developmental stage as of now so I'll keep everyone posted on our progress in completing this project.
